Instagram flat lay photography

What is a Flat Lay Image?

Flat Lay Image is a photo take on a flat surface. Used for prop styling for companies and most recent Instagram photos.

This is a simple flat lay

This collage is more complex Flatlays
This shows overhead flatlays(top left and right), flatlays with clutter(left), flatlays at an angle(right)
(Done from DSLR Camera)
Flat Lay Photography has become quite a passion project for me. I can express myself in so many ways from being colorful, artistic, to even minimalistic and modern. I've learned quite a lot over the course of 4 years of doing photography for my blog and social media. It came down to really just taking actionable steps to learn how to create Flat Lay Photos!

Let's Do a Challenge!

30 Day Flat Lay Photo Prompts !!!

The challenge goes live whenever you want to start creating flatlays. This is a self paced challenge for you to do to help you get creative with flat lay photography. Each day you get to create or share a new photo with your audience.

HOW TO PLAY!
It's really simple! Just look at the list each day and take a photo or share a photo from another creator(be sure to tag them) using the prompt as inspiration. You can make it as simple as you want or as challenging as you want. I want to get your creative juices flowing!

WHERE DO I SHARE MY CREATIONS:
Instagram: Use the hashtag #cubflatlays when you upload your flatlays!

  • Upload your photo, add a caption(you could mention the day and prompt in your caption)
  • Add the #cubflatlays
  • Check out the hashtag and comment/like others to be apart of the community
  • At random I'll pick a member that participated and share their flatlay creation on my IG

Week 1:Regram Your Faves: This is the week you sit down and look at how others are creating flatlays. It helps to give you inspiration for your own flatlays in the upcoming weeks. Share your favorite Instagrammers flatlays, don't forget to credit them in the comments and tag them! Or if you are feeling bold recreate their flatlay using items you have on hand. Don't do it exactly like theirs but make it your own with items you have around your home. Tag them to tell them they inspired you! Check out this post where I shared a roundup of my favorite Instagrammers and how they inspire my work!

Use the day's prop as your hero piece and play around with the surrounding area of your flatlay. Check out this blog post on everyday Items you can use in your photos!

  1. I see what you're doing but would love a definition of "flat lay photography", which I've never heard of before. I do love photography, though, and invite you to link up at http://image-in-ing.blogspot.com/2016/08/purple-passion.html
