Juggling to many things?

For most creatives who work from home have a hard time juggling the demands of their work with their personal life. Think about it most of us have established our work online. So, technology is our main source for doing business making it accessible around the clock. Establishing a work-life balance can be an impossible feat especially when we want to give our 100%!

So, stop trying to find work-life balance!

There’s not one simple solution to work-life balance. There’s not a magic book with all the answers written out! Work-Life balance isn’t equal. it varies over time, and there definitely isn’t a one size fits all. However, a few small steps can go a long way toward keeping you sane! Many business owners have discovered their own solutions to maintain a healthy business and personal life.

Here are 5 strategies and Actionable tips that will help manage work and life.

Prioritize

Prioritizing is the first step to developing a better work-life balance. Where is your time going? Is it competing with too many things? What do you need to keep, do less of, or just get rid of it all together?

Actionable Tip
·         Schedule time from both work AND life. Utilize your calendar and schedule time for both. If its not worth your time and it doesn’t make you happy get rid of it.
·

Focus

When it’s time to work, work. Stray away from social media and anything that can take your focus away from what you need to do. Write down what you need to do and check them off. Once you are done then you can have a little lurking session on your fave social media. After work, focus on your family, friends, spending time doing what you enjoy. For goodness sake turn off notifications and even put your phone away.

Actionable Tip
·         Create 3 columns in your notebook, phone, or on a board with a to-do list, in process list, and a done list. Each time you finish something move it over to the done list. This helps to quickly see what has to be done and get a sense of priorities and timing.

Quit

Nooo I don’t mean quit for good just take days off. You need this to just mentally recharge. Don’t look at emails, stray away from social media, just completely go off the grid! Sneaking in a harmless few seconds of anything related to work will get you back into work girl boss mode. Set a day or two like the weekends for instance to just enjoy time with family, friends, or alone time.

Actionable Tip
·         Schedule in hours and daytime for fun. Don’t just let your calendar and planner be filled with just your work.

Mindfulness

Have you ever stopped working and you were still thinking about work? Yep I’ve been there. I’ll say I stopped for the day but nope I’m thinking about what I should create next.  Are you letting work run your thoughts even on your off time?

Actionable Tips
Set some boundaries. You’re not gonna lose a client or customer if you wait tomorrow to respond to their request…for crying out loud its 11pm! Set your work hours and try to stick to it as much as you can.
Consciously think about how you are spending your time. For a week write down at the end of the day how you spent your spare time. Was it spent on your phone, computer, with family, friends, reading, working out, still thinking about work, etc.

Outsource

Outsourcing can be really hard for the one-woman team but by doing that you are freeing up so much time. Think about the things that you simply hate doing (i.e social media marketing, photography, graphic design). Outsource these key elements to people that will get the job done for you without you racking your brain. This not only helps for work but also for personal life too. Hire someone to do the lawn, babysit, clean your house, etc. This will help you focus on what you are good at doing and forget the rest.

Actionable Tip
Outsource tedious and respective task that don’t make you money, but, needs to be done to stay in business. What are those things that you need to outsource.

Remember Work-Life balance isn’t a one size fits all. Our times are different so you need to see time a bit differently that works for your life. For me I do easy work during the morning, my evenings are spent doing what I love, and then late nights are spent working on more difficult work. I get more energized during the night(don't ask me why haha😁). It works for me, my body, and my timeline and this provides work-life balance for me. Be aware of the times you are most productive and balance your life around that.

  1. Great actionable tips! I also love the part where you said to schedule the time for non-work stuff. I think it's really important to do so if we want to live a balanced life - at the end, that's how the life should be like, a little bit of work, a little bit of fun! ;)

  6. I fully agree with all your tips! I've been working from home for 10 years, and it's very difficult to leave work, when work is at home! I do like the idea of scheduling in FUN time. I've been trying to do that with my quilting and sewing projects, allowing time for some each day when at all possible.
